BecAroundTheWorld - FASPE

"BecAroundTheWorld" is a series of works that I'm starting to put together as I embark on an international reporting, communications research and media development career after graduating (finally) with a journalism masters. There are writing, documentary and multimedia projects in the pipeline, so this may spin off into a separate blog/website. This is the start of a wonderful new journey.

From May 25 to June 4, I will be in New York, Germany and Poland on a fellowship to study the role that journalists played during Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, and the ethical issues and lessons to be learned from history. Our work will be published on a website but I will also be posting pictures, videos and my personal reflections here.

This is an article on me and my classmate from the Georgetown University SCS website:

MPS Journalism students Rebecca Lim and Emily Shenk will be heading to Germany and Poland in May with the 2011 Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics (FASPE) program. FASPE is an integrated set of graduate studies dedicated to exploring the role of journalism, law, medicine, business and theology during Nazi Germany and the Holocaust.

Lim and Shenk were awarded the coveted fellowships after a competitive selection process that drew applicants from universities across the world.  The students will participate in an all-expense paid, intensive two-week trip to Berlin and Auschwitz from May 25 to June 6.  According to FASPE, students will examine ethical challenges in reporting human rights abuses by studying survivor testimony and historical and documentary sources from the Holocaust.
